Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 27, 2026

Easy-Case, Inc. ("Easy-Case," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Easy-Case bankruptcy petition preparation platform at easy-case.com (the "Service"). We understand that you are trusting us with highly sensitive financial and personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Easy-Case is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We are a technology platform that helps individuals prepare bankruptcy petition documents.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account information: name, email address, phone number, and password
  • Financial information: income, expenses, assets, debts, bank account details, creditor names and balances, and tax return data as needed to complete your bankruptcy petition
  • Identity information: Social Security number, date of birth, and address history
  • Uploaded documents: pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, vehicle titles, mortgage statements, and other financial records you provide for data extraction
  • Case information: bankruptcy chapter selection, district, filing preferences, and interview responses
  • Payment information: processed by Stripe — we do not store full credit card numbers on our servers

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and browser information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, time spent, and navigation patterns
  • Cookies and similar technologies: session cookies for authentication, preference cookies for settings (such as dark mode), and analytics cookies to improve the Service

Information From Third Parties

  • Document extraction: we use AWS Textract to read text from uploaded documents; extracted data is processed in our secure infrastructure and not retained by AWS
  • Identity verification: if you use our identity verification feature, Stripe Identity processes your verification; we receive only the verification result

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Prepare your bankruptcy petition forms accurately and completely
  • Calculate your means test eligibility using current IRS and Census Bureau data
  • Suggest applicable exemptions based on your state of residence
  • Generate your Chapter 13 repayment plan calculations when applicable
  • Provide district-specific filing instructions, court addresses, and local form requirements
  • Process your payment for our services
  • Send you transactional notifications about your case (save reminders, filing deadlines, required certifications)
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Improve the accuracy and usability of our Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your financial data to market other products to you. We do not build advertising profiles from your bankruptcy information.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use trusted third-party services to operate our platform, including AWS (cloud hosting and document processing), Stripe (payment processing and identity verification), Vercel (web hosting), and Neon (database hosting). These providers are contractually bound to use your data only to provide services to us.
  • AI processing: We use AI language models to assist with document understanding and form preparation. Financial data sent to AI providers is used solely for your petition preparation and is not used to train their models.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, court order, or government regulation.
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • With your consent: We may share information when you explicitly direct us to, such as if you choose to share your case with an attorney through our platform.

4. Data Security

We take the security of your financial information seriously:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
  • All data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption
  • Social Security numbers are stored with additional field-level encryption
  • Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS with SOC 2 compliant security controls
  • We comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) data protection requirements applicable to financial information
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis
  • We conduct regular security reviews of our systems

No system is 100% secure. While we implement industry-standard protections, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security breach affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

5. Data Retention

We retain your case data for the duration of your account plus 7 years, consistent with IRS record-keeping requirements and the typical period during which bankruptcy case records may be relevant (e.g., for amendment filings, audit defense, or subsequent filings subject to the 8-year Chapter 7 refiling bar under 11 U.S.C. §727(a)(8)).

Uploaded documents (pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements) are retained only as long as needed to complete your petition preparation. You may request deletion of uploaded documents at any time after your forms have been generated.

If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or resolving disputes).

6. Your Rights & Choices

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information in your account
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Data portability: Download your case data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw consent: Opt out of non-essential communications at any time
  • Cookie preferences: Manage cookie settings through your browser; note that disabling session cookies will prevent you from using the Service

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@easy-case.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for individuals under 18. Bankruptcy petitions require the filer to be a legal adult. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.

8. State-Specific Rights

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to request deletion, the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

If you are a resident of a state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and port your data, as well as the right to opt out of targeted advertising (we do not engage in targeted advertising using your bankruptcy data). Contact us at privacy@easy-case.com to exercise these rights.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
